Going back to the past time when papyrus, parchment paper, even clay and pencils are invented for writing concepts and purposes. Philippine literature therefore, also captivated and innovating a diversity through richness of literature evolved from time to time . though at this time, we actually count the average of Filipino’s unfamiliarity to what sense of our own literature and the Filipino budding writers had made and how to enhance its gigantic history that could pass continuously from time to time prevailing undefeated pieces of works that sharpen its excellency.
To reminisce its recognition, here are some of known and award winning writers from the various regions in the country, which to serve to be set their identities and names in the front rows of ours.
NCR
Aside from being a capital, a denote cycle of its forward realism and modernity theme has established. Writers from this region are somewhat made dynamic maturity of novel, journalistic skills and the roles of movies and poets. MIGUEL SYJUCO (Novelist) from Ateneo de Manila University who gained the Man Asian Literary Prize from its novel, “ILLUSTRADO”. ERIC GAMALINDA, (Playwrights) known as “Luminous” and “Wonderful and Vibrant” when D. Nurkse, poet laureate of Brooklyn gained some Palanca Memorial Awardson one act play. The editor and columnist, JESSICA ZAFRA who stepped ahead also for Palanca Awards for short stories and essays, and the mark of her Esotorika: Maynila her first film. While PAOLO MANALO who has been an editor ot the Philippine Free Press , and purchase awards for his poets such as its book JOLOGRAPHY. A name FH BATACAN who recently marked her own identity aside from being journalist but its best to her novel “SMALLER AND SMALLER CIRCLE” that been awarded in Palanca Award in the citation of English novel and short stories.
LUZON
PAUL ZAFARALLA- a humanist and Filipino artist who published “RICE IN THE 7 ARTS” as a book. ARIEL TABANG , a bilingual Ilocano fictionist and a poet from Cagayan, won once in the Palanca Award for short stories in iluko, “ AY , NI REBEREN!” LUISA IGLORIA (Maria luisa Aguilar) Filipina-american poet and author of various award winning writing collections such as poems: Night Willow(2014)etc. And from Baguio, DION MICHAEL FERNANDEZ, “MAKER OF MYTHS” in the manda literary society. Currently, he helps manage to Revenlot: THE FRATERNITY OF SHADOWS, an International Gothic Literary and game community who categorized him “ LUCKER MAXIMUS”. Luzon writers characterized humanity and signifies different genres of literary forms of society.
VISAYAS
This region has a varied symbol of love and wisdom to a type of literature which guaranteed a framework traditional works by good scholars. Their works emphasizes of appreciation in their regions and world’s pieces. Short stories, essays are more likely introduced and become the face of the region. We have ERLINDA ALBURO – prolific contemporary Cebuano language scholar and promoter of the language. GENEVIEVE ASENJO poet, novelist literary scholar (KINARAY A )Hiligaynon and Filipino, Palanca Awardee for short stories for Hiligaynon. EDITH TIEMPO literary critic of Dumaguete, author of THE CHARMERS’S BOX got citation in Palanca for poetry and short story. Lastly, is MARJORIE EVASCO, award winning poet of OCHRE JONES and won the S.E.A. Write award and the Palanca for essay.
MINDANAO
An author based on UK, her debut novel TALL STORY won the National Children Books Award (2012) and Crystal Kite Award for Europe (2011) CANDY GOURLAY, was from Davao and a fictionist writer and advocate of children’s write shop. Another is STEVEN PRINCE PATRICK FERNANDEZ, a professor at MSU Iligan . He is the leading Philippine artist and scholar. He founded Integrated Performing Arts Guild( IPAG). TITA LACAMBRA AYALA, who is originally from Sarrat, Ilocos Norte passed to Davao, a poet and multi media artist, author of SUNFLOWER (1960) ; awards : Palanca for “EVERYTHING” (1967). Special citation for road map series(1989). And MIGUEL ANTONIO LIZADA, creative writer and a theater actor. His piece “ The Bangkok Masseur” won 3rd prize in the English essay category in the 65thPalanca Awards for literature. He also roled CARDING (Ligurio) in ANG BIRHENG MATIMTIMAN of TanghalangAteneoEntablado (2016).
After all many inventions before, we further conclude that our PHILIPPINE LITERATURE and its writers for the various regions of our country are the enhancers ; living reminders of how our literature reaching to its aim. While, this must be not only to be seen, or to disappear towards our rich features .we always remember , before the cliché quotes from Gat Rizal “Pen is mightier than the sword”, giving back the remembrance, attributes and the legacy of these writers keep alive, as a youth will be the hope , to make some wake up calls to study, to care, to recognize and appreciate the deeds of those which showing to be another excellent for the future!
